I'm looking for a DIY recommendation to attenuate the signal to a set of speakers. I'm bi-amping a pair of NHT model 2.9 and a pair of Snell type E speakers, which have significantly different efficiencies, because I like how they sound together. I'm going to use a one Adcom GFA555 for the right channel high and low frequencies, and another Adcom GFA555 for the left. Thus the amps will be driving both speakers (which they can easily do). Previously, I used different amplifiers one of which had a volume control and did not bi-amp. Keep in mind that the volume control would have to be able to handle high current.

Some folks say that in practice, active bi-amping only gains you a dB or so of max volume, and the theoretical advantages aren't worth the time and money to implement.
But there's widespread agreement that merely *passively* biamping has far fewer theoretical advantages to live up to...
Any decent active crossover should have separate level controls for each channel of output.
