Potential Craigslist buy Yamaha NS-A635A...what should I expect?

I am considering purchasing these Yamaha NS-A635A speakers off CL. They would be for a budget system I am getting together for my office at work. Decent sized office and I might even bring a speaker outside to rock the bells now and again.

Unfortunately I need to have the owner deliver them, and I have requested pictures of the surrounds which I assume are foam. When paired with a nice $50 CL amp what can I expect sound wise? I would assume that low end will be good with those 8" drivers, but what about mid range and high?

I had a pair years ago, they're nothing special. Highs were OK, mids were weak and bass was kind of boomy. Your mileage will vary.

Mediocre speakers; I wouldn't recommend them. In general, Yamaha NS-A speakers are pretty low end. IIRC some versions of the 635s (probably the earlier ones) had cloth surrounds. But IMO you can do better. For example, I recently bought a pair of Canton Plus S minis for under $50, shipped, on the Bay.

I agree with all of the responses above. A few of the very good Yamahas include NS-1000(M), NS-670, and NS-690.

The give away on Yamaha Speakers is if there’s a “ A” Prefix before the number, There aren’t well regarded

OK, thanks all for your opinions. I have passed on these. More interesting to me now are a pair of Optimus pro LX4's. Cabinets are worse for wear but the drivers and tweeters look OK.

Yamaha NS-10Ts are sort of a consumer cousin to the studio monitor NS-10M..online they are sort of expensive but sometimes you can find them at the thrift.
They are light and look cheap but sound really nice. I have found two pair so far and paid about $20 for each set.

I have several LX-4s. Great sounding speakers but absolutely zero bass. If you add a subwoofer, figure on crossing it over at about 120hz or even 150hz.
