Power cord replacements for MC30’s. To the local hardware store or to the audiophile cable sites?

Unless you can also upgrade all the miles (10's, 100's?) of power line between your home and your power plant, it's hard to understand how upgrading the last 6 feet of electrical cord is going to accomplish anything. ..So go with cheap. :)

Nothing wrong with using a 3 prong cord on any tube amp or solid state. Also the hole in the mc30 chassis is quite large. The older version had a smaller hole but still quite large to not have to drill and diminish the value.

Reviving an old thread, as I'm in search of the same thing. My older amp has a larger hole (not drilled) and round wire, with larger cable lock. The newer amp as a smaller hole, flat cable and smaller cable lock. I will need 1 of each style cord.

Anywhere else that these can be sourced? Trying to stay as close to the originals as possible.

Replacement power cords available from Audio Classics for $11 ea. There were two different styles used on the MC30 - one round and one flat.
I can't find them on their site, but will call tomorrow. Hopefully they still carry them.

Tom has the exact cords here - http://www.mcintoshaudio.com/
I see he has the flat one available, but I don't see the round one.

My method on amps is to use a fat heavy duty 3 prong cord from Amazon or Digikey. Put a rubber grommet over the opening. Then use some “lubricant” to jamb the fat cord in there so it’s snug. But no oil based as it will weaken the rubber and not dry. Finish with 2 zip ties on the inside. Two prevents the first from sliding. Even better if you have a bolt nearby to catch with a plastic strap/clamp with an eyelet. They also make wire restraints but you need to get the right size. I used to try and buy individual wire restraints but I could never seem to get the right size. So the pack with all the sizes from Amazon is fine but I doubt I’ll use them all so it is wasteful. So I just use the snug grommet / fat wire / zip tie method and it looks snug and professional. I dislike seeing a thin wire stick out of a big hole with a grommet loosely. Or when people cut the chassis to install an iec. There are better methods. Mine isn’t perfect but looks clean and adds the ground connection for safety.
