Hi all,

Starting a new threat on this, I got a Fisher X100 and the Power
Transformer is said to be shot, Heyboer has no Specs on it and need
that info, so I can get it rewound or a new one built, any info would be
great on this should get it by next week so photos will follow.

Thanks all

If you have the non-working one you could send that to them to help with reverse-engineering. Otherwise, send them the schematic, which shows some of the primary & secondary voltages and impedances etc.

Then again.... if it's only "said" to be shot, there's the possibility that it's still good and was mis-diagnosed.

Hiya,

I agree with Louie. Why not wait until you actually have the unit in hand and run some tests before thinking the transformer is shot.

Most of the time is actually something else just that looks like the power transformer.

Think happy thoughts for the next few days as the unit travels to you and maybe you will find its something inexpensive that is actually the issue.

And you are in the right place for help in diagnosing it.

your all right about that, he said he had a tech look at it, but it could be
something else, Still need specs, just in case

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone.

If you just want to get it working and don't care about using original parts, you might consider this tranny
http://www.edcorusa.com/products/595-xpwr007_120.aspx
The voltage would be a little lower (you might be able to ditch the two 250 ohm 7W resistors) but you might be better off.....with modern line voltages, you are kind of pushing the envelope with this thing @ stock voltage of 390V on an EL84 at 117v line. If you go this route you might want to swap c1 asnd c2.

The stock tranny had some marginal specs on the rectifier winding...1.9amp at 5V.....maybe that's what blew. You might be able to use the stock one with diodes

This is all great, thank you for all the help, I just emailed the seller to ask
him if it's the power trannie for sure, lets see what happens.

Hi all,
Sent the power transformer to Heyboer for a rebuild or a new one will be built
If they make a new any tip's to make it run better??

For a new build, Dadbar had some good input at post #8 to perhaps beef up the current rating of the 5V rectifier winding.

Also, maybe they can wind the primary for a higher input line voltage vs. the old 117V; e.g. 120V and 125V taps would be nice.

Thanks to all, for the great input anything else to get this guy going good,
I'm changing the stiff extension cord with the screw on plug with something
else I have, but it will get there.

Hi all,
Heard from heyboer today, it seems that on the power Transformer the wire
for the secondarys seem a little under sized for the job and primary's as well.
There going to beef up the wire and make it a little thicker to handle the current.
also going to raise the primary from 117 to 120 if he can and make the 5v@2amp
to 2.5 amp, sounds good to me. Oh the X100-B is back in action, new volume pot
and some new resistors here and there, the balance problem is gone and it really
sounds better and NOS volume pot really made a difference in the sound even that
low volume problem I had with the phono is gone more weight to the sound. yea
more poor Scott it's just sitting there not being used, selling time?

That sounds like a good improvement over the original. It would be good if we could keep a list somewhere of the vintage transformers that Heyboer has reproduced so that others with similar blown transformers can benefit.

Congrats, how much for the rewind? Bad things will happen if you get rid of the Scott.:D

Hi,
Not a rewind, he's making me a all new Transformer it seems the
Varnish is so hard he can't get it apart, but noticed the the wiring is
thin for that power draw so he's going to beef it up. Now what
bad thinks are going to happen if I sell the Scott, oh! I know
more Fishers!:banana::thmbsp::yes::music:
