Power Transformer For CR-640

I've had my Yamaha CR-640 for probably 17 years now and it hasn't worked for over 10 years. It started blowing fuses. I would replace a fuse and it would instantly blow.

Long story short, I have no idea how to fix these things, but recently a retired electrician contacted me and told me he would look at it. He said he desires to keep his skills sharp by working on stereo equipment. When he got around to checking it out, he discovered that the power Transformer was bad and needed replaced. He didn't know where I could find one working, and passed it on to me to try to locate one. I'm having no luck. So I wanted to ask the enthusiasts here if they know where I can locate this part for my receiver. It's a beautiful unit and I would love to get it working again. When it was working, it sounded great. I'll post a pic of my Receiver and the transformer here.

Thanks for any advice.

where I can locate this part

Welcome to AK!

It's very much a model-specific transformer, so I believe the only realistic chance is finding a donor unit.

That might not be unrealistic, since this model is somewhat prone to being abandoned due to failures of the encapsulated parts in the power amp section. The odds are very good that such an abandoned unit will have a good transformer.

Thanks Chazix. Do you have any suggestions where I should start looking for a donor? Maybe someone here has one they'd part with.

Maybe you could become a subscriber.. Bartertown is a place to buy, sell, or trade here on AK.

Otherwise keep and eye out on ebay or any other social media type of market.

Craigs list ?

At the risk of seeming like a salesperson for AK subscriptions, one way to check this out would be to become a subscriber, which will allow you to post a WTB (wanted to buy) ad in the subscribers-only "Bartertown" section.

Whoops, avionic beat me to it, but it bears repeating.

As a word to the wise, AK has a rule that buy/sell offers aren't permitted in the general forums.

I might as well page @utumven11, who has what might be a donor unit for this case. You can connect with the "Conversations" (private messages) feature.
