I must confess I don't know squat about pre-amps? I do believe that a receiver (G-9000) has an amp and pre-amp section - one question is - would a G-9000's performance be enhanced by using a Sansui CA-2000 pre-amp? or - is it best to use pre-amps with stand alone amps?

Receiver (G9000) or integrated amps have both pre amp and amp in their topology. The G9000 pre is pretty respectable.

You could alwats try a separate pre amp into the mains on the G9000 to see if you prefer the sound.

Pre amp tends to have more impact on sound,

I'm currently renning an Adcom pre amp with the amp of my sanaui 890DB. Most people will use separate pre with separate amp. I don't have separate amp hence using my receivers for now.
