Pre Amp question.

Hello.

I'm pretty new here on AK but I have a question. I have a Sansui Reciever R-410 and I was using a Audio Technica AT-LP60 to listen to records. As I understand, the LP60 has a built in preamp. I'm planning to purchase a Sansui P-D11 turntable from the 1970s. Will I need to purchase a pre Amp? Does my Sansui R-410 have a pre Amp built in? Same with the older Sansui Turntable.

That Sansui receiver includes a phono preamp. Hence the phono source selector on the front panel and phono input jacks on the rear (phono = phonograph).

The 1970s turntable does not have a built-in phono amp.

But since the receiver does, you will not need to buy a separate phono amp. Simply connect the Sansui table to the receiver's phono inputs (and connect its ground wire, if it has one, to the ground screw on the receiver).

The AT LP60 can be used with its internal phono amp, in which case it must be connected to a line input (anything EXCEPT the phono input will work). If its internal phono amp is switched off, then it would be connected to the phono inputs of the receiver...which of course routes the signal through the receiver's phono amp section.
