Preamp for Turntable

There are some tube preamps that a lot of people swear by. Meanwhile there's a lot of cheap unreliable stuff on ebay as well. How low is your budget? One popular choice, and I'm still using it myself, is the ART DJPRE II. http://www.amazon.com/ART-II-Preamp...TF8&qid=1451915501&sr=8-1&keywords=art+dj+pre Current list on Amazon is $45.40. It has a low cut filter as well as input cap selection. It has a gain knob and a clipping warning light but I'm honestly not sure if the warning light means anything. Folks here in the past have recommended it as a cheap alternative and I'm sure many still would. If you asked a moderator to move this thread over to the Turntable forum you might get more attention as well.

The poster lists his country as Croatia. That said, I have no idea of availability of electronics there. Notwithstanding that, I would suggest looking at the Emotiva phono pre for around $120 or the Bellari tube amp for around $280; this last was recommended to me by Needle Doctor for my Exact2 cartridge. I also used the Art DJ Pre and found it to be a nice little preamp for the money. So here are three choices to consider

Another vote for the ArtDJ II phono pre as a quality budget unit--basically $50 USD delivered any day of the week. I have one as a back-up unit, but it seems to be "on loan" all of the time, so I use my heavily modded Jolida JD9 as my "daily driver", but I have close to $1K in invested in it.

They are a bit sketchy on specs, but for (the equivalent of) $30 it is worth a try. It does say noise floor of 88 dB which is good. No word on RIAA EQ accuracy though, nor frequency response. However, good specs on those params are not really all that hard to achieve.
Don't expect the performance of a thousand dollar unit of course, but how bad can it be ?
Also, though I never ran two TTs for any long time, I did have multiple headshells for one for different records. One had an Audio Techniaca AT13Ea and the other had some sort of conical stylus, It was either a low end Shure or a Pickering (and a weight so I didn't have to reset the arm). On scratched and worn records the conical sounded much better. On ones in good shape I used the AT.
So if you wind up doing something like that it is not a hard thing to figure out which sounds better and use the better one for the better vinyl.

^ I bought one of those on the advice of those here. It's great. It seems to cut the noise floor down to almost CD level. Love it.
It has an AWFULLY bright blue LED to indicate that it has input power. Plan on taping over that if it's for use in a room where anyone sleeps. It could use a power switch. Other than that, it's wonderful.
