Preamp or amp - what matters more (c22 / mc60)

I personally have a B&W sub being used in my warehouse right now, maybe it would match well? They do pair pretty well with Japanese speakers

DB1D, 2 12" woofers front and back

Ill go tomorrow and bring it to my house, but maybe one isnt enough
I run two subs. They fill the room more evenly, at lower volumes.

Good luck!

How do you connect a powered sub or two, to a tube amplifier? The lux must be connected to a load.
I am not exactly sure how powered subs work but Its currently coming out of the back of my technics SU9600 preamp (Pre out, RCA)

I see the LX38 has a pre out / main in at the back, maybe I can use that to connect to the subwoofer?

In response to your original question, I heartily recommend a preamp investment, first.
The preamp is the heart and mind, the control center of your system.

You will gain Tape Record Outputs, another possible Subwoofer interface. You will have a sweet Phono stage to look forward to listening with.
You might even decide another brand of preamp will be your choice, depending on the sonic flavor you choose.

Try to find a dealer who will allow you "in-home" trials. You might even decide a classic, C-20 pre is your preference ! Or, a more vintage C-22. Maybe even some brand you never thought about. After all, it is your home system. Why "get accustomed" to some new offering, when a classic might simply enchant your ears ?

I think of preamps as the foundation of a system...

Enjoy the audio journey !

does the main in need to be connected?

Cant i just do the pre out to sub and leave other socket empty?
No, the Lux main input must be connected to the pre out in order to function.
You will need two RCA splitters to convert the single pre out into two pre outputs. The male plugs connect to the pre out; using a short stereo cable, connect one pre out set to the main in; use another stereo cable to connect the other pre out set to your subwoofer.

Thanks for the advice! Dont think I can move this c22 home with me to audition but there is a C22 CE i can borrow. Im not sure how the sound of that compares to the original 1960s version but ill assume itll be mostly close?

I mostly play LPs so a good phono stage is nice.
