Preamp Question

I'm new here and this is my first post.

My MusicHall MMF phono-preamp stopped working so, in desperation, I dug my Carver CT-107 preamplifier out of the closet and have my Pro-Ject Essential ii plugged into its phono inputs. Using the Carver's pre-outs into a tape input in my Rotel RSX 1055 receiver, it works great (sounds as good or better than the MusicHall unit.)
Now I have functioning volume and tone controls on the Carver. Should I run the Carver full volume and use the Rotel for volume control or will that be over-driving the inputs on the Rotel?

That is a tough question without the specs for the equipment. You want the signal to basically remain at the " Line level " for the purest sound. Why not use a tape out on the Carver and use the tone & volume controls on the Rotel?

I like the convenience of simple tone knobs and the added bonus of using the "sonic-holography" voodoo on the carver (now and then).
