Preamp to amp cables

To test the validity of any audible signal degradation, I ran the least expensive IC cable I could find between the tape monitor loop, enabling instant real time listening comparisons of the signal passing through the cable and being bypassed by the flick of the tape monitor button. The difference was nonexistent. That was all the convincing I needed that I will never spend on hyped-up $$$ cables.

This was further reinforced when I witnessed a five-figure amplifier undergoing final tests during a tour of the McIntosh plant in Binghamton. The cable being used to connect the amplifier input to the test equipment looked just like any commonly available IC.

If I had a preamp and amp, I would use WBCs RCAs with locking ends, will get a nice tight connection, regardless of the size of the female RCA connector (they can vary a little in OD from one mfg to another), that will not loosen. And they are relatively cheap, $30-40 for a short set.
WBC mogami cables with those high quality RCAs are top notch. Mogami ics are resistant to rfi and other types of noise. I think this helps when all the cables, power cords, circuit breakers are crisscrossed.

I don't seem to be able to get a pat answer on proper gauge interconnect RCA cables from my McIntosh C30 preamp to my Emotiva 300 per channel amp...4 ft length?
Is 16 ga ok , is 14 better?
I even saw that McIntosh sells them and they are $600 for a pair, that's insane!
I made my own RCA interconnects utilizing high-grade coax cables and premium coax to RCA connectors. These cables work amazingly well and sound very neutral. I run them between my preamp and Adcom GFA-565 mono-blocs. Audioquest is a manufacturer I would highly recommend. While you might only need 4 feet, getting a 5 foot cable might be a better solution to five you some extra room if needed. :)
