Preamp World War

Proton AP-1000, SAE PA-10, Yamaha CX-50, Yamaha CX-600, Carver CT-17.

Which one is the better sounding. Opinions again please. I know the Carver is a tuner also but I'm interested which is the better pre-amp. All have the 3 tone controls I want. Will not be using a TT.

Welll... If not using a TT.. then for all intents and purposes you Do Not require a Preamp.

Pretty sure Yamaha CX-50 and CX-600 are the same preamp badged for different markets so you can toss both of those out at the same time.

Make sure you get MC. Also, make sure the winner is the most transparent. Preamps can color the signal as much as an amp. The coloration is additive so the result can be really dull at the speakers.

I was hoping someone had experience with some of these and could tell me good or bad. Like I have never heard of the proton. There is a Marantz 3200 on blobay that has three tone controls, but it is pretty old.

I have a 3200 and a 3600. I'm using the 3200 right now. Its OK, but not great. I like the 3600 more but it does use a couple chips that are next to impossible to find if they go bad. I'm looking for a cleaner faceplate for my 3600 its pretty beat up. I would really like to have a 33 or 3250b.
