That table is absolutely gorgeous, I love it! :ntwrthy: I see now why the Jelco had to relocate. Did you start a thread for this table already, or is this it's debut? How is the soapstone doing at isolating the tonearm from the motor vibration? Do you work with stone for a living or something? Sorry for all the questions but I'm thoroughly impressed and must know more!:yes:

Thank you! I'm mostly just a hobbyist that has a few hand tools.
I make my living as an artist in construction. I'm a master level craftsman in multiple disciplines to support the art - a long story. I call myself an artist, but I don't do paintings. Stone and metal are amongst the media that I work in.

I finished that deck a few weeks ago now. Its a sweet deck. I've built in a bunch of custom features into it, like the inset arm board aluminum disc. The whole arm board is also removable to give even more adjustability, and make the thing movable. it allows for intimate overhang adjustment, and p-to-s distance adjustment for different arm. I carved in a platter bracing bar to support the top plate.
I like the deck allot, but, it hasn't grabbed me yet. I need to upgrade what I've got going on with it for a cartridge. I've also so intensely tweaked its older cousin, the DC deck, that it is a contender now in the world of esoteric tweaker tables - g33k tables. Its hard for me to not want to use it.

This is the result of the oil pumper spindle groove sanding.
The top picture is the overview. The lower picture is a manipulated closeup zoom view.
What you're looking at is a raised ring in the casting of the bearing housing that acts as a sump or well for a felt oil washer, where the spindle enters the bearing sleeve.

Its so much of a success that the only thing keeping the oil from overflowing is the surface tension of the liquid (oil). You can see its risen up out of the bearing sleeve, and is up into unsupported spindle. This is quite impressive.

Thanks Mike for putting the photos back in. It will serve as an inspiration to many as to what can be accomplished when you are determined to make a project work. Is it still spinning? Any thoughts with living with it for quite a few years?

Hi Kim,

You're most welcome.
That deck doesn't receive the play time that it should, due simply to the fact that it is not conveniently located in my rack.
When I first placed it, I only had a center stereo array of speakers. Then I added a second set of large speakers, and, that made accessing that deck difficult; not impossible, just not accessible as its sibling which is wide open access. Its sibling weighs in at apprx 185lbs, as does this one. So changing spots,.... a back breaking task. Because of that, it sits mostly unused.
