Price check.. Apogee Slant 8 Centaurus

looking at a Pair of Apogee Slant 8 Centaurus Speakers? See the msrp was $4000 years ago.. How much are they worth now and are there common problems with these I should look out for? You would think $4000 speakers would be built like tanks.. but I figure I would ask first. I know they have Ribbons and was also wondering if they were repairable if needed? Thanks!

I'm not too sure about current value. I guess that depends on condition? And especially if the ribbons are functioning or not? If everything works, they'd definitely be a good purchase. If the ribbons need replacing, that can get expensive, but doable. 'Graz' of Apogee Acoustics (in Australia), builds new ribbons for most models of the Apogee speaker line. Not cheap, but very good quality, from what I've read. You can find pricing here.

Cosmetic condition I would say 8/10.. they're about an hour away from me and I don't want to go there unless it's to make a purchase.. the seller stated they were "unable to test". In my experience that usually means they have no idea what they're selling.. hopefully that's the case. My gut is telling me to get them.. price is only $250 for the pair..
