Prince is coming to a Target near you.

The superstar is releasing a three-disc CD set through the retailer at the end of this month. The set will include two new albums — "LOtUSFLOW3R" and "MPLSoUND" — as well as a third by his new artist, Bria Valente, for the price of $11.98.

Prince is just the latest music legend to release new music exclusively through a major retailer. AC/DC and the Eagles were among the acts who sold millions of CDs through their partnership with Wal-Mart.

Prince has released his recent CDs through major labels, but they were one-album deals that gave him the flexibility to go elsewhere when the project was done. Last fall, he released a coffee table book of photos titled "21 Nights" documenting his record-breaking, 21-night run at London's 02 Arena in 2007. The book also included a CD of live performances.

"Prince has long been renowned as one of the world's most original and iconic musical artists," said Mark Schindele, Target's senior vice president of merchandising. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share his most recent work with our Target guests."

The CD set will be on sale at Target and its Web site on March 29.

I just won't shop at an outlet that a artist signs exclusive deals with, heck I would of boycotted the Beatles for such a move. I bought the AC/DC through a website and do not visit Walmart's and the like because of many reasons this being one.

Have it your way , but it's a far better deal for the artists instead of getting ripped off by record companies .
Walmart is offering a band $5 per cd sold , show me a label that offers that ?
also Ac Dc was promised 3 million cd's sold up front , do the math $5 times 3 million cd's .
In this day & age when everyone feels they are entitled to "free music" this is a smart move for any band , those who continue to make $1 an album if lucky & then have tp pay back labels video , recording , touring costs & end up minus any $$$$$ are fools .

I agree that it is the wave of the future , it just cuts out my opportunities! I will get it if it's at an online store though unless it's Walmart!

It is the future.

Irving Azoff, chairman of TicketMaster, is also the manager of the Eagles. They can make more off a deal with a retailer than they can with a record company.

He wants it cheap. He feels that the artist making money is just plain bad.

dew.

How much more cheaper can it get $12 for 3 cd's !

walmart had journey at what $12 for 2 cd's & a dvd , Ac Dc was like $10.88 , win , win for me & the band .

Walmart has a bad rep but in my area it's not deserved. In east Linn county Oregon, Walmart often hires folks that no one else will. Folks who have a past of drugs and alcohol or criminal records, folks who have burned nearly every other employer in town. Walmart gives them jobs with competitive wages and benefits...often they are the last good chance folks have to redeem their past and move forward. As a person who worked as a partner with the Community Action Agency in east Linn county we had an excellent relationship with Walmart. I understand why so many folks have issues with them however they are here to stay so time to move on and allow them to be good community partners. Just my opinion.
