Priority for McIntosh Gear

Hi Everyone - found an estate sale with a nice amount of McIntosh gear:

McIntosh MA 6900 Integrated Amp
McIntosh MC 2105 Power Amp (looked like 2 or 3 of these)
McIntosh C-28 Pre Amp

Also
Ampex 601 reel to reel suitcase
Dahlquist DQ-20s
Teac A-6300 reel to reel

I'm a newbie to really good sounding gear. I currently have a Pro-Ject Debut III turntable and a couple of JBL E 60 speakers along with a Marantz SR-5500.

Sorry for the long lead up to the real question, but how should I prioritize the McIntosh gear? I'm not sure what the pricing will be for the estate sale. If it's high, I want to stay married. :)

With that in mind, what should I go for first if I can't afford everything?

The images for the estate sale were pretty blurry, so I spent about 4 hours trying to identify all this stuff.

Try for a package deal price on everything. If that price scares you then ask what he's looking for individually. I'm betting he'll cut you a deal if you decide to take it all.
 
I'm gonna try to do that. Will probably have to cap at $400 at most, so probably won't have an option to get everything. I guess with estate sales, it can totally vary. My hope is that other folks haven't tried to decipher all the blurry pictures to figure out what's there.
 
Might want to add another zero to your cap. My guess is you would be lucky to walk out with the C28 for 400. The 2105 would probably easily double to triple that each, and the 6900...well, good luck. The other 3 items may be a bit less, but if they showed them in the add, they probably know what they are worth.
 
I figure I'll be lucky to come away with something good. They took very shabby pictures of the gear, so I don't think they have a full idea of what it's all worth. I'm sure there are some other folks that have seen this stuff, though. I'll just have to see what happens there...

That may be so, however, the vultures who you will be competing against know what its worth and thats where the problems start......

Even if they have no idea what its worth, I am sure they realise its worth more than 400 bucks, all they have to do is take a look on eBay and they'll be informed enough....

Also, coming from an estate sale, it will have been sitting around for a long time so the C28 and MC2015 will need work...

If it was me I'd be going for the MA6900 (are you sure its a MA6900, seems a bit too new to be at an estate sale??)
 
The very shabby pictures should be a big clue. I can't believe an auctioner wouldn't have the ability to take decent pictures at least with his smartphone.
 
If you can't get all, get the MA 6900.

It's a fantastic integrated. Very powerful. Beautiful sound.

I had one and loved it.

I don't know about your area, but around here if one of those estate sale companies is involved, I swear that nothing is listed for less than twice what it is worth. These can be such total rip-offs that it amazes me that anybody even bothers to show-up.
 
If you're a newbie to good sounding gear, you might not need 3 2100's. ;)

That being said, google and EBay are your friends to find past values.

If you're lucky, you can snag one of the amps for $750.00 or so. Build around that.
 
Look at Audio Classics.com. For upper limit prices on equipment which has been tested and has their backing. In an estate sale, with NO information on care etc, I wouldn't pay more than ~50% of the AC price and only then if I could see them working.

I've been to many estate sales, for many years and I can guarantee you they know what the
Equipment is worth! and while deals can be had, they don't give stuff away!
Like a previous poster stated, the c-28 alone would be a steal at $400 (which I don't think you will get. You can forget any hopes of the amps. They surely will be quite a bit out of your budget. Everyone knows ebay, you can rest assured the estate companies do too!

When shopping estate sales you need to look at the accessories!
Great interconnects and speaker wires are often overlooked and you can score
Expensive wires cheap.. McIntosh...they will not give away! Their prices at best will be slightly lower than ebay, so nothing there will be $400.... Sorry
