I am fixing a Pro-Ject 1.3 for a friend who had an accident with it and the tonearm needed to be rewired and readjusted. I haven't received the new wires so I haven't listened to it yet.
The point is that I decided to test the motor and the platter to check if there was something else wrong and noticed excessive (to me) vibration coming out from the motor and I don't know if it's normal. The Platter turns smoothly and everything seems to work fine, the speed is constant but if you touch the motor the vibration is very obvious, you can even listen it if you get close (about 1 foot) and you can feel it it through the table where I'm working on. As the motor is decoupled from the rest of the turntable the vibration doesn't seem to be transmitted to it but I can't be sure without actually playing a record.
I don't have experience with Pro-Ject turntables so I don't know if this is something to be expected or isn't. I used a belt drive Pioneer PL 516 a long time ago and I don't remember feeling that much vibration. I currently have a direct drive Technics SL.1800 mkII in which you can't hear or feel absolutely any vibration.
