Pro-Ject 2xperience SB tonearm upgrade?

brotherly

New Member
Hey guys, I'm curious about my 2xperience sb's tonearm. I'm wondering if it'll be possible to upgrade it in the future, and if so, which tonearms would fit? It says it uses a Linn mount, and I assume I'd have to find something with similar measurements wrt overhang, distance to spindle, etc. I've never swapped a tonearm before, but I'm wondering if this is something I could do in the future? Has anyone tried to change the tonearm on a 2xperience before? I like the 9cc evo tonearm for now, but I can see myself wanting to move up without having to buy an entirely new table at some point. Thanks for any suggestions!

Do not discount the 9CC Evo arm, as it is a very good arm. You will need to invest quite a bit to improve it unless you have a cartridge that has special requirements. I run a 9CC on my modded TD160 with fabulous results. You might want to consider a cartridge upgrade instead. FWIW

Jim

Thanks for the reply Jim. Definitely not discounting the 9cc-- I'm very happy with it right now. But you know how it goes, the upgrade bug will bite eventually. Mostly just looking for info if/when the time comes and I want to try something new.

I have used a variety of cartridges on mine, MM Ortofon Black, Moving coils Ortofon MC20, MC20 Super, Dynavector 20XH, 20X2H, and 17D2mr, As well as a Audio Technica MM AT15Sa. I currently run a Paradox Ebony bodied Denon DL103 with a sapphire cantilever/ML stylus upgrade and it sounds fabulous. So you have a lot of flexibility in cartridges, so I would try that first. IMHO
Enjoy,
Jim
