I have ordered a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit DC with an acrylic platter

I was wondering if i should use a mat, most say yes including the manual

What i was wondering is, what if the motor has so much torch that the record for a split second can't keep up with the torch/rpm of the acrylic platter and than theres a scratch?

I have a analogis matt three acrylic clear, first time i used it there was so much power from the motor,platter that i got at scratch on the acrylic mat.

Slippage isn't an issue on changers where stacked records are slapping each other and slipping as they drop. I doubt that the acrylic platter is any different. As long as you are keeping the platter, mat and record clean I wouldn't worry, but that's me.

I'd be more interested if there is a difference in sound and a difference in VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) with vs. without the mat. Phono pickups are after all microphones that are mechanically connected to the media (groove). If the backing (the platter or mat) is of different material behind the disk/record then that might affect what the microphone picks up through the record. How much it would affect it, I don't know. I'm no expert, but those are my thoughts.
 
I had a debut III. I also put an acrylic platter on it. I was told I did not need a mat, but decided to go with the Herbie’s Way II mat in the thinnest thickness they sold. For me, it was the way to go.

The Herbie’s mat is a type of foam mat. I liked the idea that the record would be more stable and less likely to slide. I thought I heard a slight improvement in sound, but it could have been just my wanting to hear it. Regardless, it made me feel safer with my records. Just my 2 cents.
 
I have a Pro-ject Debut Carbon with acrylic platter. I go no mat but do have the Pro-ject weight. It’s a full 1 lb so nothing is slipping.

I prefer no mat for static reasons.

I ran my Marantz TT15S1 without a mat too. They included a piece of mat in order to set the VTA if you wanted to use the mat. Pro-Ject does not but I’ve never noticed any issue.

I had the cork-it mat when I didn’t have the acrylic platter. I tried it but like no mat better.

The Speedbox is still probably the best improvement.
 
I didn't buy the speedbox version

Reason is not the price difference, it's because i don't have any 45 records and with the speed box you change the speed of the motor but you change the gear ratio of the non sb model, there should be absolutly no difference in noise between 33 vs 45 and 45 vs 33 rpm and the motor should last longe since it doesn't change speed.
