Hi all,

Would love to hear your opinion on the U-Turn Orbit with ortofon OM 5E cartridge vs. debut carbon vs. the debut iii recordmaster. It's hard to come by professional reviews of the latter.

Many thanks!

I owned a Debut III that I modded. Added the acrylic platter, speed box, and sorbethane grommets under the motor mount. Then added Dynamat on the bottom of the plinth everywhere it would fit and look OK. Upgraded to on Ortofon 2M Black cartridge. When I was done, I took it to the dealer I bought it from for a tune up. He was amazed and said it would hang with any 2,000 dollar table. I agree and it was a really nice set up. One thing I highly suggest on any entry level Pro-Ject table. Have the dealer set it up and check it over before you get it. Prevents a lot of those motor and noise issues many people complain about.

Thanks so much for your reply. Tbh, modding is not really for me - I'm ok replacing parts, but I'm totally inept when it comes to changing the hardware in any way.

Right now I'm leaning toward the recordmaster for $275, but very open to being persuaded otherwise...

Pro-ject is notorious for poor quality control, particularly in the less expensive models. I would avoid unless you are confident that a local dealer will support his products.

U-Turn, on the other hand, has a good record for customer support.
