Pro-Ject Phono Box S settings for 2M Blue and Grado

Hey guys.

Just got one of these today because I wanted the subsonic filter, but also want to eventually get an MC cart too.


So I have an Ortofon 2m Blue... the booklet says the 2m Red should be:
Gain: 40 db, load cpacity: 220pf, and impedence: 47k ohms.
Would the Blue be the same?

What about a Grado? Has an F1+ stylus on a F3+ cart.

And I want to try the Denon DL110 soon if funds allow!

Yes - The settings would be the same for the 2M Blue as for the 2M Red. For probably all of the cartridges that produce a high output in the neighborhood of 4 mV or more, it's going to be best at 40 dB gain and 47k Ohm resistance. You could tinker with capacitance.

The Denon isn't as high in output, so you would probably use the 43 dB gain setting.

It means some people like to change that 47k to something lower, like 20k, but not as low as the MC settings. Your phono preamp isn't set up to do that. Most aren't.

I have the same combination, 2M blue and the Pro-Ject. Sounds pretty good to me. The 2M Blue's output is 5.5mv and plenty loud at the 40db setting. I also use the the other settings you show as well. The first impression I had with the 2M Blue was that it had a wider soundstage when compared to what was used prior.

yes, 10K would be too low, even though the original paperwork said 10K or higher for loading. 22-24K would be better. it doesn't care about capacitance since the inductance of that body is a mere 55mh. It will play fine at 47K, and system dependent, may not sound a bit different 24K or 47K
