Pro Ject Tube Box Phone DS3 B tube rolling

I have a Pro Ject Tube Box Phone Preamp DS3 B and want to do some tube rolling. I have read a few forums and have a good idea what tubes that I want to try. My question is whether it is possible to remove the top (Is it sealed in addition to the bolts) or do I have to change out the tubes through to top? Has anyone done this or thoughts on the approach?

I can't find out anything so I need to take them out to be sure.
That's what I did with the DS2 Tube Box. H2-sized Allen head screws.

BTW... my tube rolling found the Raytheon 5751 and 12AX7 were the best tubes for this unit.

Thanks. I have a matched pair of

Thanks. I have a pair of

RTC Mullard Tubes 7308 UK

tubes that I plan to use since that was the only ones that anyone has recommended. This unit seems to be relatively new so there are not many people experimenting with it yet.

Interestingly, they went to 6DJ8/ECC88-type tubes.

Look for quiet as well as good resolution. 12AX7 types can be noisy. The windmill Raytheon 5751 had the least hiss and the best resolution for my unit. Though, I never tried the Sylvania or NEC 12AD7 tube.

I don't have much experience with the 7308/E88CC tube. Good luck with the Mullards.

Sorry I have been out of it for a while due to medical issues. I used Telefunken tubes a think that they made a big change in how the unit performed.
Sorry to hear that. I actually put some Reflektor’s in and couldn’t hear much of a different so I went back to the stock tubes. What Telefunken’s did you use? NOS or the new rebranded ones?

I have the older Tube Box DS2 and have used these three tube types with great results: Raytheon 5751 "Windmill" getter, JJ E83CC Frame Grid, and currently Psvane Horizon 12AX7 tubes.

Right now I have a set of JJ ECC803 S (long plate) tubes in the DS2... they are slightly warm, with a big upper bass and mid range. Best of all they tame the slightly bright sound of my Monitor Audio Silver 500 speakers. I like them better the the E83CC frame grid tubes. My Raytheon 5751 "Windmill" getter tubes are better with my Infinity RS4b speakers.
