ProAc Tablette History

I'm a necromancer of threads, both on this and other forums. I think it's for the best not to lose knowledge that is out there!

Anyway, there isn't as much about Proac Tablettes as there should be here. In particular, I'm looking for a manual. I've heard they are quite good. Have not found one yet.

But I wanted to share my experience. I've had my Tablettes for a few years now and finally got around to putting them on a decent set of stands that only last week I filled with sand. Wow, that is the ticket. These speakers really do need to be on a solid surface. It is night and day. They are much louder and just disappear as point sources. Wonderful.

Every ProAc speaker I have heard has been excellent. I remember my first hearing of a Tablette (which iteration?) at an audio show in the early 1990s. I remember feeling quite confused at how such a smooth and fairly big sound could come from such a small speaker. ProAC - good stuff!

Found a pair of Super Tablettes at a yard sale last summer. Right now my rebuilt 80wpc Sony STR-6800 has them singing in my second system. Great sound in a small room. As others have noted, they also score high on the WAF due to their small size and nice looks.

Big fan of all Proacs except models with ribbon tweeters...which are unbalanced and too bright imho. Have pr Frankenstein Tablette 50's, pr Tablette III's, pr of Tablette 50 signatures, spare drivers, single Tablette 50 cabinet with crossover...and notebook full of Proac Tablette info, reviews, schematics, evolution, etc....currently lost in my cabin. Have owned Proac Response 1 SC's, Model 2, 2S, 2.5 & 3.8's. Have heard many other more expensive Proac models ...and still believe the 3.8's are my favorite. Tablette III's, and earlier with the smaller mid/bass driver, do not sound as full as the Tablette 50's and later. One of my Frankenstein 50's has the Seas bronze phase plug 1SC woofer.... those desireable woofers were once available through a 1SC kit builder in the Far East. Again it's been years...will search for clearer info. Was once so enthusiastic about Tablette speakers that I bought and still own a Tablette website domain. Oh, also own pair of Tablette 2000's....great little TV speakers when paired with an Sansui Eight Deluxe receiver (8 & 8D's another passion). Tablettes, and Proacs in general, sound best with tubes...except for a very few trans amps. EG... McIntosh 4100 receiver makes the Tabbies much too bright. Bought a variety of other small speakers to compare with the Tablette 50 Sig...ADS L210B, L300, L400, etc... and only the early Celestion Compact A's ( msrp $1000 pr) and Spendor S3/5's were close. The Tablettes are also exciting to run with other large speakers to enhance their sound... Boston Acoustics A200's or ADS 910's for example. Of course you ruin the imaging... but still short term fun.
Smoothest tube amps for various model Tablettes... Dynaco Stereo 70, McIntosh MC240 or Marantz 8b.
