Problem W/PL-530 Tonearm Position

Hi Y'all,

I'm thinking of picking up a PL-530, which is in need of work to correct several issues. It needs a good cleaning, lube and tune-up including a new cartridge & stylus. Most of the other problems are only cosmetic and need time & patience to remedy.

The one thing I'm on edge about is the tonearm when the Auto function is used, it isn't positioning itself correctly on start-up. The arm falls short of touchdown by 1/4" or so - finding nothing but air, or hitting the edge of vinyl.

Does anyone have experience correcting this issue who might give me some advice? A blown-up diagram of the tonearm would really help me out too.

Thanks...NTD

Register @ Vinylengine.com and get the Service manual (FREE). There is an adjustment IIRC for just this problem.

You are correct, sir! That little rubber cap to the left of the tonearm pivot covers an adjustment screw which sets both the drop and pickup point of the tonearm. If I recall, you have to swing the tonearm in toward the spindle for the screw to become accessible.
