Problem with my MRC Control Master ll train transformer

Running my HO train last night (Athearn PA-1 with dummy A and 7 unit Athearn consist )All of a sudden the short circuit light lit and the circuit breaker tripped .Strange as there was no derailment .Waited for the circuit breaker to reset but still no track power I took it down and used my multi tester but the reading was zero on the variable track voltage terminal.I checked the fixed voltage terminal and it read 22 volts (should be 12)the fixed A/C terminal read 16 volts.I took off the sheet metal cover and I could find no obvious loose or broken connections.I am not tech savvy so I have no idea what could be wrong Any ideas?

Oh yes ,one of the first things that I . checked The transformer had been in place for A couple of years and used to perform just great until this happened!

I think I have the same controller that I use for my smaller LGB locomotives.
Sounds like something inside went belly up on you.
Can you post a pic of the insides of the controller?

I have a couple MRC 6200s. When mine went full voltage, it was caused by one of the two transistors/FETs shorting internally. I replaced it and have not had any further problems, though I only use them on the test bench now.

That's good to know, thanks.

Hi Lucius, If you locate a schematic diagram that you could post up here, and if you have a modern digital multimeter (even a cheapie "Harbor Freight" type will do, as long as it actually works), I will be happy to suggest a few tests to help diagnose what part(s) malfunctioned.
