Problem with Rotel Ra 1412

a big hello sorry my first post is a problem one
Could anyone offer advice on posible cause or where to get it fixed
The problem is with the left channel it keeps cutting out but if you wang up the volume it cuts back in well only till it quickly cuts out again
Its a Rotel RA 1412

I'll give you 3 possibilities. (just my opinions) Dirty switches or potentiometers, cruddy contacts on the speaker relay, bad solder joint somewhere.

You don't say where you're located so it's hard to recommend someone to service it.

You could clean the switches and pots yourself. Here's a great beginners guide. Your Rotel probably needs a good switch cleaning anyway. Those are nice amps. Probably the largest, heaviest 100WPC amp I've seen. A real tank.

Thanks for the advice and i will give the cleaning the pots and switches ago

The Rotel is a big amp with plenty of power 120 watts of course i would like one of the big classic recievers like a pioneer/sansui or the rotel 1603 i did have a1203 a long time ago when they first came out

i like the sound of the rotel amp and its not to fussy on what you pair it up with having said that the speakers have got to be able to cope with the power

By the way, if it is the really, as inductor mentions, I should have told you there's an easy check for that too. The relay is inside a clear or colored plastic box on the circuit board, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch in size. With the unit in it's "bad" running state, gently tap on the case of the relay with something non-conductive. If the sound changes dramatically, then the relay needs to be serviced or repaired.
