Problem with Yamaha CA-810

Howdy Hipsters. First time poster long time reader. I recently got a Yamaha CA-810 in decent shape for $100 (maybe too much?) that I am now having problems with. The previous owner said he had recently had it serviced, including cleaning of all contacts and knobs and relamping. What happened was this: My technics SL-5100 started to "runaway" as I've come to know it and accelerated to very high RPM. Before I could get over to it and stop it the output on the Yamaha quit. It still had power and lights, but the amp would not click on. As the idiot I am I took off the top and was looking to see if there were any obvious shorts or what not that I thought I might be able to fix and foolishly put my hand down near the power supply. This caused a brief arc and blew the fuses. Now it blows fuses instantly. I've paid a local repair shop $30 to look it over and see if they can fix it. I really enjoyed the sound while it was working and I guess I'd really like to know if it's worth fixing or if I should just move on? Any idea what went wrong (aside from me and my fat fingers)? Any idea how much the repair should/could cost?

Thanks, Pat.

Sorry, I was listening to Quadrophenia. I guess long story short the amplifier went out suddenly following a "runaway turntable speed" event. Then I touched something inside I shouldn't have and now it's dead. Is it worth trying to repair or should I just look for something else?

sorry ...being 1.45 a.m here ..full of booze my 50th birthday end of drinks thing .. i cant honestly work it out ..i am sure someone will come along and help you fix it ..yep the booze got me damn it

Ok, repair shop came back and said two output transistors are dead and that he can not find OE replacements. I poked on google real quick and found the following links. Any thoughts?

Got the Yamaha back yesterday. Sounds great :) Local repair shop said he used transistors "2SB554 sub for 555" and "2SD424 sub for 425" and he replaced a few bad capacitors. Any thoughts on that? It's greek to me. But it sounds great so I'm happy.

Good to hear. That's a nice piece. Certainly worth a repair.

BTW. 100 is a pretty good price. I saw one on ebay go for three times that! Was I "surprised"? You bet. I was amazed someone would pay that for a CR-810. But they did! Of course that is much higher than usual.

But 100 is good!

Enjoy!

Just got my cheapo Kenwood KT-7300 hooked up to a Sansui AU-517. Man what a difference a half decent Tuner makes!

Yamaha makes some nice vintage tuners that would match your unit if you listen to the FM?

Enjoy!
