Problems with a sx-434

Ok long story short, I recently bought a sx-434 off of eBay and everything was fine, for about 30 minutes. Then with my turntable playing, I started to hear a lot of static in the left speaker. This issue has continued over the past couple of days. If I turn the volume up while the static is present, the static almost always stops. Also, I have used the radio off and on and have never noticed the static present but I haven't extensively used the radio. My main question is could this problem be a dirty pot, or is it something more serious like a bad channel on the amp? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to AK.
There are plenty of X3X officianados here, and unfortunately I'm not one.
But, the very first thing anyone should do is give the pots and switches a thorough clean with the correct electrical cleaner.
There are plenty of threads here on how to do this properly.
Have a read, then clean yours and let us know how it went.
Almost all vintage amps purchased from ebay, unless otherwise specified, will most certainly need the controls deoxited.
Keep in mind that the pots not only need cleaning but lubrication too, otherwise they will chew themselves up.
Do some research from the forum and get the necessary sprays.

I would definitely give it a good cleaning first and see if it clears up. Sometimes increasing the volume can improve the electrical contact in dirty controls or relays briefly so that sound comes back. Had that issue in a sx-780 but not familiar with the 434.
 
Invest in some deoxit d4 and fader lube f4, clean up the controls and switches. as said previously read up on the techniques.

Years back, started a big thread on the 434 and just about everything a guy would need to refurb one or get it running. When finished, it out performed some higher numbered models and was very simple to do. Do some thread research and find it!
 
The CORRECT Formulation for DeOxit and Faderlube is D-5 and F-5. Gold is G-5..
