Problems with Technics sl-1200 Dust Cover

I ordered a new dust cover and hinges. well

I lined up the hinges and put them on pushed the dust cover into the slot and well.
one side of the dust cover is raised up and the other one is laying down
I Even swapped the hinges around on the dust cover still the same side was raised
i have been trying to figure this out for awhile now and i can't figure it out Help me please :/

This has come up a few times lately. The cover apparently has sort of a "twist" in it. Seems to be a common problem with the covers available now so a return for exchange would likely get you a new cover with the same problem.

You didn't mention how high the gap is at the elevated corner. If it's not too great you might be able to compensate for it by repositioning the hinge diagonally opposite the raised corner. It might be necessary to remove the hinge and elongate the holes in the plexiglass with a small round file or Dremel. You'd still have that twist, of course, but the gap would be out of sight at the rear and the hinge would support the corner so it wouldn't bounce around.

crap you're right it does have a twist in it

I Wonder if i could clean all my finger prints off of it and heat it up really fast to tweek it back

Oh, crap! I just noticed the photo. That's really bad! I think, if you removed the cover and then took the hinges off, you'd see that the dustcover would actually rock back and forth on a flat surface like a table top with the L/F and R/R corners not both touching the table at the same time.

You might want to try to return it after all. Maybe the seller will hand-select one that doesn't have the problem or at least has it to a lesser extent so that my earlier suggestion would work.

If you can't return it you might try putting it outside on an absolutely flat surface in the direct sun. Leave it there all day. Can't really hurt anything and it might be enough temperature to make it flatten out against the flat surface.

Well have you ever heard that saying go big or go home i paid 41 dollars wholesale for the dust cover
I Had the old dust cover still i didn't throw it away so i decided to stick the old one in the oven and i was able to bend it

So I was able to bend the new dust cover 99% its not 100% but i was able to bend it to where it needed to be now it closes all the way and is almost 100% even on all sides

What oven temp did you use and how long did you leave it in? As I mentioned, there seems to be an epidemic of these so the info would help some others here.

I bought 40 of them wholesale before the prices went up. Of the 10 or so I have used (to put on tables I sold) not one was straight. Like someone else said, you can get it to lie somewhat flat at the front by changing the position of the cover on the hinge size.

Its something else you should never have to do this to something brand new

but I used pieces of tin foil under the corners i set the oven to 185 it all really happened fast no more then 5 mins for the whole process my IR Temp meter thing said 179 I Had some thick rubber gloves on and worked it back

The oven really didn't even have time to get up to temp


don't get it too hot 205 started to warp the old dust cover it was bowing in the middle

It would be best if you had the old one to work with

Hey do you think anybody would want the old dust cover to test heating it up if not I need to throw it away soon

Preheat the oven to 200, put the cover on a towel and pace it in the over for 10 min. Remove it, place it on a level surface and put light pressure on the top, just enough to get all four corners down. Let it cool...
