Problems with Yahoo mail

I`ve been using Yahoo for 6 or 7 years with hardly any problems. Recently, things have changed. While in Yahoo mail, it`s like the keyboard is disconnected from the computer....I try to type, but there is no response, or, maybe just one keystroke, then I get the "bell" sound, accompanied by the spinning arrow, and no further response from the keyboard. When this happens, I can hear the hard drive slowing way down, sounds like it`s being strangled. Usually accompanied by the message "Yahoo.com is not responding".
Any ideas/suggestions ?
