Proctractor on Thorens turntables

Thorens provided headshell gauges for installing a cartridge correctly along the tonearm.
Since now - not having a gauge - I've been using the measurements I did on the user manual's gauge picture (TP-60 headshell):

which I also double checked with actual headshell gauge measurements provided by a user on this forum (sorry, I'm probably making a double of that thread...).
Basically, I have been placing my carts with their stylii at 25 mm vertically from the headshell edge and 8 mm horizontally.
Although it seems to me that with this method (gauge or distance measurements) a Thorens user should not need a protractor, I also check the alignment with a simple protractor from the TNT-Audio website which is based on two null points at 66 and 120.9 mm. With this system I've obtained very good results at testing my tonearm/cartridge system on HiFi News no. 3 test record.
Now I'm reading about protractors on the VE website: different kinds, different theories and authors, different null points.
There is also a protractor specifically designed for Thorens decks and arms. It appears that until now I've been using the VE's "stupid" protractor (Baerwald's 66/120.89 null points).
I tried checking the alignment on my TD-160/TP-16 MKI with the Thorens Baerwald arc protractor provided by VE and I can't follow the arc with the cartridge installed according to the picture above.
It appears Thorens' original recommendations (the use of their gauge) are not compatible with the (more recent?) Baerwald arc protractor alignment.
What is your experience with cartridge alignment on Thorens tables?

I've used the Baerwald for Thorens several times. I've had to adjust the cart's tracking via the mounting screws in the headshell to line things up, but it works. My 165 has the same mounting radius as your 160 (215.60mm).

Yes, it works. I tried it yeasterday on a TD-160 and a TD-165. It is fairly easy to align the cartridge accordingly, although the my TP-16 has some difficulty in reaching the C point closest to the spindle.
I was just wondering why it is different from what the original gauge suggests: about 5 mm from the headshell's edge versus 8, maybe 10.
But I'm learning there are different theories (Baerwald, Stevenson, Lofgren) about cartridge alignment, so I just figure the most recent Baerwald for Thorens should be the best to follow... Or isn't it?
 
p.r: Why don't you simply use JaS' alignment calculator & comparator over on VE? With that you can easily see the differences between the usual alignments (also depending and the playback area these are calculated for).
