"Professional" CL'isters Getting in the Way

Just recently I notice a couple of guys on Rochester NY CL that have interesting stuff but are advertsing boutique pricing. Like this one:

http://rochester.craigslist.org/ele/1038637558.html

Now I don't know value of this particular item but it P!$$'es me off that now I have to sift through what at first looks like a great CL vintage listing only to see that - oh yeah it's one of those guys running their store on CL.

Should be a rule against it but probably tough to police/enforce.

yeah i saw that, i also linked some speakers that showed up on syracuse cl from lyons, ny. dynaco st-70 and a bunch of other tube stuff as well as the speakers. looks more like a listing from the auctionsite than anything else, with sky high prices. i was excited at first but now i hear what you're saying. rochester is 10x better for vintage than syracuse, so it doesn't take much to get excited here.

Yes it pisses me off too. Here in Southern California there are at least a few people doing it. They keep listing the same things over and over at prices that are way too high for CL buyers. I swear to god I've seen a lot of the same things posted every day for at least half a year (probably more...) now. One guy even puts ads up with links to his "Audio Consignment" store. It would be great if they could find a way to get rid of these people. If you ask me they are ruining Craigslist. If anyone wants to start a campaiign to start flagging the hell out of these guys I'm in.

Why shouldn't they be able to make use of the CL ads. they have something to sell Someone might want to buy it.

Now if you want to bitch why not bitch about having to sort through 10 pages of cell phone **** to reach the 1 page worth of real electronic's items that is my life here in Portland CL's market.

Oh my word, TELL ME ABOUT IT!
I hate those stupid cell phone ads!
There should be a cell phone section, it would make CL so much easier to look through.

Too high? Don't buy.

I agree totally. To flag peoples listings just because you think their prices are too high or they relist items is just not right. Why some people think everything should be sold at the price they want to pay and not whatever the market will bring is beyond me. If you don't want to pay someone's price move on to the next add.

If they are posting ads for the same item day after day, then that is a violation of CL posting rules and terms of service agreement, and if the posts are commercial in nature, that as well is a violation.

CL asks it's users to flag all posts that are in violation of it's rules and TOS agreement.

Flag away!

I see nothing wrong with the CL ad that the OP posted. Yeah, it is priced with a VERY high price, but ??????????. What am I missing? Should the seller consult us to set his pricing structure? My opinion is just leave the guy alone. Either his stuff will sell and he can pay his bills or he will grow tired of listing it and move on. I sure don't see it being worth getting pissed about. Maybe I am missing something?:smoke:

Looks like a business listing to me...heck there's even a link to what appears to be some type of business site.

I think that's the underlying gripe, but maybe not...

Show me the Craigslist regulation that says that businesses can't post ads for individual items.

As long as they aren't spamming it (posting it more than once a week, posting in more than one section, posting outside their geographical area), or posting prohibited or fraudulent items, they're not in violation of any rules...

Regards,
Gordon.

Absolutely! They need to make a Craigslist "Wireless" section... for all the cell phones, PDAs, Blackberries and the like!

While they're at it, they could use to make a video game section as well...

Gordon.

I'd be happy to find electronics worth looking at on my local CL at any price.

My personal experience as a seller is that you shouldn't plan to sell anything on CL for more than 2/3 the lowest you'd expect it to bring on eBay (usually less). Take comfort in the likelihood that these guys probably aren't selling anything with their "boutique pricing."

All the CL listings I look at are commercial in nature. If goods or services are exchanged for money, then that's commerce. I sometimes see something interesting listed over and over at really high prices. I don't know or care if its a business or an individual, if it's too much it's too much If I just want to bitch, what about car stereo listings that don't mention car in the title. But to me the king of irritating is the cell phone thing....it would be nice if cell phones were in a separate section.

Yes... That is my main issue here. It's one thing when people follow the rules and price their stuff to high... That I'm okay with. My problem is people pricing their stuff way to high and listing the same thing day after day and no one buying it. Some of the people here are doing it as their daily business advertising for the same item. It would be one thing if it were only one thing
but these people are doing with the same ten or twenty items every day (sometimes a couple times a day...) and it's not just one person either, It's quite a few people.

Me, I use craigshelper to sort out most of the irrelevant ads. I'm sure I end up missing a few things of interest, but I get through much faster.

It's funny you mentioned this....I know exactly who you're talking about. Absurd prices! Literally 2 to 3x what they sell for on fleabay. $300 for a Pioneer PL-514 :jawdrop:

At any rate though, I don't think you should flag his posts.....it's not a scam, it's not against CL rules, what it is is some deluded @$$hole in Greece. :)

I think people play fast and loose when it comes to flagging ads.I was flagged by a few people for a free listing when I said Id choose someone instead of first come first served,to avoid flippers. If business ads really bug you, dont look in the furniture section of CL.
