Proficient Amplifiers

Does anyone here have any experience with Proficient amplifiers? I am intrigued with the M2 amplifier but there is not much about it on the web. I have only seen it and the specs at their site. There are some youtube videos too but nothing in regards to a review.:scratch2:

Proficient is a division of Speakercraft and really designed as a custom installer brand like Sonance.Elan or Niles, etc.
I have not used the amplifiers but have used the speakers and IR stuff they make and it is well made and reliable.

I think the amplifiers look goofy and call attention to themselves which is the opposite of what I want on a job but I have heard that they are not too bad.
I wouldn't think they are especially great unless especially cheap?

I stick with Sonance,Elan,Parasound,Rotel, etc. amplifiers mainly as they are proven and reliable and just plain looking.

Thanks AVService, appreciate it! I did purchase an M2 off ebay for $310 shipped. Since I could not find anything on them I took the chance based on the description and photo's the seller provided. I think it is a dual mono design with 4 10,000 uf caps, 6 transistors, and a rectifier per side, on each board. It weighs in at over 30lbs. Yes the face is gimmicky but the power is what I am looking for to run my A400's. Once it is here I will open it up and snap some photo's to post.

Most install amplifiers like this are designed to be pretty beefy all around as many installers will load them up with way too many speakers and expect them to run that way 24/7.

Since Proficient is a company catering to that market and they have been around a while I expect the amplifier is fairly well made so it will last in those applications.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions of it.

Any (or most) amps built on a dual mono design should have some good headroom. The quality of the parts is important in that design, of course. But you'll know better than any of us in a short while, when your ears judge the SQ.

SpeakerCraft I would steer clear of it . Speakercraft is for deaf trendy types who put speakers in ceilings . Not great value + Not great sounding . Products like Speakercraft are carried by companies who never have a listening room , show up by appointment only , want to wire every room in your house with keypads and crap speakers and sell you 6300 ft of wire .
The products are meant to picked out by wife who intends to hide it and doesn't care if it sounds good .

The bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of the deal is forgotten .

The amp arrived intact, today. Shipped from Colorado and I opened it up to inspect the boards. Here's what I found, beefy design:D Of course I will need to hook it up to verify the working order. But some pics to look at!:D

First impression.....wow! Big difference in soundstage and my preamp is pretty basic, no tone controls. So far I am liking it! I really need to improve the phono stage or find a good preamp as this has always been the weak spot of any system I have put together.:music:

Update, found a guy locally that had an HK AVR 20II receiver and I picked it up for $40. Swapped out the heathkit and wha la, huge improvement in the clarity, seperation and image. Best $40 I have spent in a while. System sounds fantastic:music:
