Super Member
I was lucky enough to pick up a Project Debut iii today for REALLY cheap. Now I have 2 turntables and would love to hear which one you guys think is the superior turntable and why. I have had my Pioneer PL-550 for 2 years and love it but have been very impressed with the Project as a friend has it. Just looking for some oppinions.

I'd actually be interested in your opinions, since you have both units.

I agree with the previous two posters. You're going to have a hard time finding a member who has both of those tables at the same time. Let the comparisons begin!:thmbsp:

Just sit back and enjoy the new turntable!:music:

Don't remove the cartridge from the Project Debut III unless you are confident in re-aligning it.

The Project Debut III does not have a removable headshell does it?:scratch2:

Ok, so I did a real simple side by side tonight. My receiver has 2 phono inputs so i was able to switch between the 2 and hear the difference.
My receiver is the Sansui G-971 and both turntables were connected to the phono inputs on the receiver.
Record was The Cars self title
The Pioneer has a Grado Gold 1 needle and cart and the Pro-ject Debut has a Grado Green Needle and Cart. I know they are not the same but they are as close as I could get them
The Pioneer had more of a tiney sound and didn't seem as clear as the pro-ject. The project had more bass and was a little clearer. It also seemed to have a better soundstage. The two sounded a lot alike but to my ears the Project sounded a little better. I am hoping that when i put the Grado Gold 1 on the Project it will sound even better.

Try rolling the carts between the two decks and listen again and see if you get the same results.
