Project/One DR-I incoming

I have a Project/One DR-I turntable being shipped to me, hopefully properly packed. It appears to be a rebadged CEC turntable, possibly the BD-3000, but any solid information seems hard to come by. This seems to at least partially be the result of people confusing Project/One with Pro-Ject.

Does anyone have any reliable information on this model or perhaps know where a manual could be found? I've checked Vinyl Engine and searched around without a definite answer.

A house brand from Playback

Playback was a electronics retailer that closed its doors sometime in the
1980's. Project One was house brand that paid the salesman more commission than other brands like Pioneer that was always a loss leader.
The manufacturer differed due to price point and product. The receivers and
turntables were the best sellers. Quality was very high, 'built like a tank' is
what we always told the customer. Owners manuals were nothing more than
a few pages on how to balance the tonearm.

Thanks for the info. I thought that Project/One was a house brand, but I wasn't sure. The reason I was wondering about a manual is that even though balancing a tonearm isn't much trouble, I've yet to use a weight-based anti-skating mechanism like this has and wasn't sure if there might be some info on how to adjust it.
 
Well, the turntable arrived, but there appears to be a little more to this than simply changing the belt. The problem may have been caused by yet another case of improper packing before shipping. :sigh:

Here is the turntable. I forgot to put the anti-skating weight back on before taking the picture.



Right now, the tonearm is a bit loose. I went to remove the headshell, and although I was able to, the tonearm actually turned when I turned the release. Having not run into this before, I'm not sure what the proper thing to do would be. There appears to be an adjustment that perhaps needs to be tightened?



Also, I'm not sure how to properly remove the platter on this turntable to change the belt. I don't see any clips, and it seems pretty snug. I'm guessing someone with more experience than myself might have an idea?

Once I get the platter off, I can work on cleaning up the goop that was the old belt.

Wow, that looks much nicer than the mostly plastic DR-115 I found. Hopefully it cleans up well for you.
 
Believe it or not I stumbled on my Playback spiff booklet from 1977 a while ago. A DR-1 listed for 99 sold for 69. paid a 1.00 spiff and was the entry TT.

Wow! I guess I'm not the only person who holds on to things that some people would, unfortunately, consider meaningless. The spiff booklet wouldn't happen to have any details on the table included, would it?

For an entry level turntable the DR-I sure seems nice. I've seen others from the same period that seem, at least to me, to be of a lower build quality.
 
Okay, I managed to get the platter off. I put a little Marvel Lubricating Oil on the spindle, let it sit overnight, and this morning the platter pulled off as it should.

Of course, this still leaves me with the tonearm issue. It twists in place which causes the headshell to be tilted to the left or right rather than level. Any ideas?

I found it rather funny to find the ring there. I'm guessing whoever originally had this turntable never paid much attention to the details.

Also, there seems to be a small screw on the underside of the tonearm that might allow me to tighten it properly, but it isn't easy to get to. Is there a good way to get to something like this that will allow me to keep the arm in place to make sure it's secured level?
