Hi all,

I have a problem on P-One Mark 1500 receiver. The right channel is playing a barely audible level. I have cleaned the switches including the tape monitor. If I turn the balance all the way to the right I can just hear the sound. Any suggestions for an electronically challenged but audio appreciative person would be welcomed. Is it going to be worth putting some money into this unit?

If you have a preamp try bypassing the unit's preamp. If not using a portable CD player hooked up to the headphone out to RCA jacks, turn the volume down and feed that into the main in (you'll have to remove the jumpers on the back to do all this), gradually turn the volume up on the CD player (don't turn it up too high on the receiver or CD player, I don't know if this receiver attenuates the volume from its own volume knob in the case of using a different preamp, as I've never had to do this with any of my Mark 1500s). If the volume in both channels is then the same, the problem is the preamp section. If one channel is lower then the problem is the amp section. Or if in the case that this receiver can attenuate the main ins (again, I don't know this) and it is the same both ways it could be the volume control itself.

If I recall correctly how this receiver works unless the protection is bypassed this receiver won't leave protection with a blown channel, but either these or one of the other odd branded receivers I had has seperate relays for each side, so one side can come out of protection but the other won't. Check the circuit boards near the tranny and make sure no bypasses are soldered on the backs where the relays are, and make sure the relays are there at all, but try the above first.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have more than my limited experience can handle so I just took it to a local repair shop for a diagnoses. I really hope its not something terminal or cost prohibitive.
