Few weeks back, I stumbled on a local Fluoroscan. It was non-working and was concerned that the outputs many have been blown (from what I read).

Though not the top of the heap SX-3900, the SX-3800 boasts 60 WPC (not too shabby).

Here is how she arrived.

It would not pass the DBT... so here is where I deviated from the typical scrip of fixing an issue before rebuilding. In order to work on the power supply and amp board = some disassembly required.

To get access, I de-soldered the rows of wire wrap modules form the boards.

Board had some burnt resistors and new outputs are the only way to go at this point.

I really wanted one of these from this line about a year ago, there is a lot to like about them, they seem to be confused about their identity. They have SX-xx80 silver look (which I really like) combined with the awesome blue meters. Really an example of how manufactures/industry were changing.

Well, hows it sound? I remember watching the xraytonyb video on the 3900 and it looked (and he said) to be a real pain to work on. Judging from your photos it looks to be so. Pretty neat how the moved a lot of the controls towards the back.
 
I have 2 of these..one works great, the other lights up a 100 watt bulb on the dbt to 110%. I was kinda scared to work on it but your post helps alot , now I'm mostly mildly afraid..:)

Hey, so I didn't want to bother you with this, but I can't figure out what you may have used for VR1+VR2. Did you go up to 500k? The manual I have says that they are supposed to be 330k but I have 470k factory installed. VR3-VR6 I think I have figured out. Any way do you remember what you used? Thanks

Sorry…. but I don’t recall.
Go with 500k. Looks like I went with multi turn there with adjustment on the front. Just study the data sheet on the trimmer and sure you will find one that works.

any trix to getting to the guts of the switches, do they all have pot-metal tabs you have to bend out and in to get to the goods?

Use an old output to mark the hold down bars... cut with a Dremel cutting wheel.

I had the same idea in my A9 repair in this forum - to clamp all the transistors with this all aluminum busbar. But in this way, we put the transistor in a closed conductive frame, and it is not clear how the electromagnetic fields of induction and self-induction will affect each other, and whether this will lead to an increase in distortions. So I rejected that option. I also think that the new transistor case has only one screw for this very reason. How does this amp play, does it sound good?
