Proton 930 or NAD 7130?

These are both available locally for about the same price, similar in age, similar WPC, both described as fully functional. I've read through a good deal of previous AK discussion of both receivers and have a pretty clear picture of their similarities, and also of the widely divergent takes on them: they're either eternal mid-fi keepers or terrible mid-fi junk, depending on the person posting. I'm willing to take a chance on one of them, and wondering if ca. 2023, when these units are now pushing 40 years old, anyone has a strong take on whether one would be a far better choice than the other.

If you are comparing the Nad 7020 (not the 7030) I would say they have a very similar sound signature. The same goes for the Nad 7120 or 7125. Obviously the 7020 is a receiver version of the famed 3020 integrated amp. I have all three and the Proton 930 has by far the best tuner. I do not consider any of them to be mid fi. Their weakness would be their low wattage power rating so I would be careful to mate any of the with efficient speakers. Also the 7020 and the Proton both have main in pre out which is handy for a powered sub, separate power amp or an eq etc. Binding posts are spring clips on all but that can be compensated by using pigtails from Parts Express or a tech can just put in better binding posts. If FM is important to you the Proton 930 is the clear winner imo. There all north of 35 years old so that is also a factor.
