Have recently had the opportunity to listen to a PS Audio 4.5 and I am currently amazed with how great this little pre-amp sounds... or how it does not sound like a solid state piece. Been listening to LP's; OP Amps are stock actually everything but the transformer is stock... Open, Warm, Wide, Deep. Haven't tried this with a good CD player but think it would be no less than fantastic. I swear I was listening to tubes. Anyone else have opinions? Still kind of in unbelief.

Thanks for the confirm. Sometimes "this is too good to be true" influences my perspective. I have both CD and MiniDisc sources lined up ... I need to get to that. Its detailed without being overly detailed and without knowing, I can see how this pre-amp would work really well with better digital sources. I'm thinking ahead that this could also be a great front end for a good sound card. The dimensions match a 1U rack space nicely.

I just received this 5.0 preamp. I won it in a local auction for forty dollars in February. It had no power supply which is why it was so inexpensive. A gentleman in Denver built a power supply for me and upgraded the caps. After spending time with it in straight wire with a CD, I can tell you it is sublime! The best preamp that I will more than likely ever own.

I have a PS Audio IV pre amp which has been out of service for awhile due to, at least in my best guess, a power supply that went toes up. Seeing this thread, I looked around on the web, and discovered that not only are they still in business, but also someone actually answers the phone, and was willing to send me a service manual with schematic!
