Hi all,
I have a question for fellow PS-X800 owners. My deck was working and suddenly the arm went weird: it wouldn't drop / drifted and the cue left/right functions died. This was on the same day I happened to touch the multitude of awfully tiny tonearm wires that are soldered into the Tonearm Relay boards A-H (pp. 33-34 of service manual). I know bad solder/wiring at this interface is an established area of problem with this and other Biotracer models. Due to some solder-iron carelessness on my part I had to unsolder all the tonearm wires to all boards to repair (heatshrink) some of the wiring sleeves (don't ask). I was careful to check the wiring against the schematic as I removed them. There were at least two differences between fact and schematic:

As highlighted above, on Board C the Green and Red wires were connected the other way round on my deck and on Board G the Blue and White wires, likewise, were inverted. Having repaired and re-soldered all the leads (I like to tinker, but that really wasn't fun), I decided to re-solder following the schematic exactly. This didn't have good results: the arm was bouncing up and down like crazy until I reverted to the non-schematic Board C wiring (this board is vertical motion feedback) and wouldn't perform any horizontal movement until I switched the White and Blue wires back to their non-schematic order on board G (this board is horizontal motion feedback).
I also highlight Board A because I found a further oddity. The wiring on my deck follows the schematic here, however I get a value closer to 48 OHM when I measure between GRN/RED and I get a value closer to 180OHM when I measure between WHT/BLU. It appears there is a possible misprint here -- the resistance values having been switched?
In the interests of establishing useful information for one and all could some -- any! --keen and brave owners of this deck check the relay board wiring and measurement values and see if they correlate with my deck or the schematic? Having looked quite carefully at the wiring before de-soldering, and finding a few of the joints very degraded, it is not my impression any previous owner/tech has tampered with these wires, so my gut-feeling is erroneous information on the schematic. Frankly, judging from the ambiguities of the calibration procedure instructions, this would not surprise me.
Any input on this one gratefully received -- as no doubt it will be by someone else at some point down the road!
Cheers, Nick
