Hey boys and girls!

I have a question regarding Psvane 12AX7’s..
Are their “Art Series” much better than their standard 12AX7? Are they worth the 3x greater cost?

Also wondering what you-all who have tried them, think of the Electro-Harmonix 7025… Good, bad or..?
Asking ‘cause I recently finished a well modded 834 clone phono pre. It sounds great - but tubes in it are very microphonic and I want some quiet ones…

I have an tube-output DAC, not a buffer but an all-tube design replacing the op-amps. I use Gold Lion 12AX7s and find them very quiet, non-microphonic and with a juicy midrange reminiscent of Mullards or Amperex. Just my .02.

Are you talking about the Psvane 12AX7-S Art tube? These have a rich, warm midrange centered sound. Maybe close to vintage blackplate RCAs.

Those would be the ones.
Are they microphonic or relatively quiet - and are they worth the huge price difference over the standard Psvane 12AX7?

Mr Boochie, might you have tried the EH 7025’s?
 
the JJ 803-S's have been my go to 12AX7. I don't have anything at the moment that uses 12AX7's though. I've never had a Psvane tube other than a rectifier. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on the standard Pavane 12AX7 when it comes to dependability.

ive used em (psvane art series) in phono. a good pair is neither microphonic nor noisy. clear, smooth. i still cant get a straight answer on whether or not the art series and red print are the same tube.

EH7025 is a good one as well. quiet.

No, I have not.

Some of the quietest newer made tubes, are the Sovtek 12AX7LPS. I like their sound. Maybe, not as sexy as some of the more modern boutique types out there.

Quiet and clean sounding. Bottom to top.

yes, +1 for same comments. I have quite a few NOS 12AX7s. The new ART-S series are very rich sounding tubes and still have a top end to them. Much better than the normal PSVANE 12AX7s.

ah! so the art series and the reg red label tubes arent the same?
 
There's 2 current production tubes that are really great in a phone pre. The JJ E83CC and the EH 7025. I did a lot of noise testing on my home build phono pre and these were the best. Not real expensive and as good as the best NOS stuff out there. The JJ was my favourite and I use it exclusively when I'm dealing very sensitive circuits. Both are also great in combo guitar amps where noise and microphonics are a problem.

I use a quartet of 12AX7/ECC83 PSVane "V1 selected" (aka low noise) in my SRPP Anzaï tube preamplifier for the RIAA Phono section :

These tubes are fine, as expected, no issue...

Ivw used both the JJ E83CC and the 803-S's. I like them both, but the
803-S's sounds just bit better to me. Have you tried the 803-S's

thats 2 of the 3 (add psvane art series) i use in phono.
 
The frame-grid JJ E83CC is a very good tube. Especially, in high gain sections of a pre-amp --- input and phono stages.

I've considered trying the frame grid JJ's. But I just don't have anything at the moment that uses 12AX7's. I am building another preamp at the moment that uses 12AX7's, so I might give them a try. I had held off starting the preamp until I finished a tube phono preamp, but I ran into a snag getting a tool I needed. It got lost in the mail, and I had to order another one.
The only suppliers for this particular tool that I could find was China and Germany.
