Purchased some ADS L-980's

Yup! The tube has worked just about every time!
Personally I'm not comfortable with the pin method, but if it works, then it's all good.
I wasn't comfortable with the pin idea, but I suppose I'm not comfortable being seen getting so intimate with a paper towel tube either - my kid saw me do it to the midrange on my L-780's before Richard So re-did them and he wore the damn joke to the bone (no pun intended).

Oh yeah, the visual can go a long way, no pun intended!

When I sent my L-1590 tweets and mids to Richard So, they came back with the new domes all pushed in. I was shocked! :yikes:
I guess the different air pressure from his location to here in Florida caused them to get pushed in during the trip since they had the protector caps over the domes. This is when I created my pin to help ease them out, I let them sit out in the Florida sun for a bit to limber them up first. The pin doesn't actually puncture the dome, it merely grabs the fabric and easily allows it to be pulled out. Probably over 5 years of success doing it this way without any issues. I have had some very rigid paper domes that I had to actually puncture with it to make it work, but easily patched the pin hole with a mix of glue and paper fiber of similar color to make it disappear.

Funny you should mention ADS speakers in a car. I used to have a 1995 BMW 540i 6-speed with ADS speakers in it. On the dash, where there is normally a 2" paper cone tweeter, there was an actual ADS dome instead!! Have a look!

I had the level 3 with the two subs in the trunk as well. Yet another car I wish I still had.
