Pyle Professional - Grounding?

How do you ground a pre-ground turntable to a receiver? I have noticed a hum since I loaded a Shure M97 and started using an Onkyo reciever. Should I open up the turntable and attach a wire from the grounding post to my Onkyo? Is it a good idea?
