Hi All,
I used to have a set of Q-Acoustics 2020i 'bookshelves' (though they are a bit too large for the average bookshelf) and loved them dearly. One of our local hifi-shops recently dropped the prices for their 'Concept' range by 40% (guess they are not selling a lot during lockdown) and I was able to snap up a pair of Concept 40s for a very reasonable price.
These are my first non-Klipsch floorstanders in 10 years: my dear KG4.5s have been banned to the mancave for the moment, while I give the new puppies a whirl. First impression was rubbish, but then I quickly realised that they really like you to sit in the sweet spot (I gather horn speakers aren't so fussy there), and then, wow.
With the foam bung in the rear ports, bass is tight and not as boomy as the KG4.5s (always felt that their enclosure had some strange bass resonance issues) and certainly leaner, upper range seems more delicate and detailed, but what really seems to be improved is sound stage. I've given them ample power to play with (Marantz SM-80) and they seem to be quite happy with this.
So far they are doing well, but won't just sell the KG4.5s yet.
Anybody else has a pair of the Concept 40s? Would be interested in your opinion.
