Q regarding JBL large format drivers and horns

Thanks Zilch.. I was just checking.. strange I stumbled on this.. I was just kind of reading back on some 4555's... I tell you though.. I wish the prices now were the same as 3 years ago...

i'll put the 511 on the votts that are crossed at 800, and i do have a set of the 902s with tangerine phase plug in the model 15s i can swap out if i have to. Do you see a problem using the 802s on a model 19 xo crossed at 500?
 
I think you'll find the 902 drivers on a 511 horn crossed at 1200hz if going to be about the best sounding you can get...

I have the 802s on the 811s now, but i will be putting the 511s in place of the 811s so i can use those in the valencias. so on the votts il have 802s on 511s crossed at 800 hz. And in the valencias i wanted to use another set of 802s on the 811s on the model 19 xo crossed at 500 hz. and 416A woofer. Do you foresee a problem with these crossed at 500 anybody? 802s will have mylar caps and if i have to, will the 902s in the model 15s switch out with the 802s? i havent looked yet but remember the model 15s have that 90 degree bend on those plastic horns
 
Yep.. what Zilch said.. also, when you are crossing around 500hz, or 800hz, you're right in the middle of that midrange where at least to me, it just doesn't sound as good if you get that cross up higher into the 1000hz to 1200hz... Not as big a sounding bump right there in the middle of everything..
 
OK ill switch out the 902s and cross at 1k, but remember, these are going in old valencia cabinets. thanks guys, for the extra work lmaooo
 
The cabs they are going in doesn't make any difference... it's the drivers that will make a difference as to what you want to cross them over at.. and if you go with the M19 crossover, as Zilch said, they will be crossed at 1200hz.

Hey RC, you should get Cosmos involved. He is using that exact set up. Me and Kegger went down to his house a month ago and spent the day listening. It sounded great.

EDIT: sorry, he is using Edgarhorns. But with all the other componants you are looking at.

To know Toole is to love Toole, right? I am reading the abridged version as not to be overwhelmed.

I did that with Castaneda when I was young and believed all of it. Now I realize that he was brilliant and full of **** at the same time ;)

Dennis my friend! This thread was started back in the olden days :D

I still have all that gear though I believe :yes: I even have a pair of EV x-overs for those drivers and horns (HP 940's)
