QLS-3 Amp selection

Ok kids - I finally got a new to me amp to power the QLS-3s I purchased locally on CL.

I've bought a Crown PSA-2 amp, not hooked up yet do to lack of proper cables (will arrive tomorrow). Anyone have any experience with Crown Amps like the PSA-2 with the QLS speaker line and think this amp has what it takes.

Bump ... Hooked em up today and the PSA-2 sounds great ... ummmm where's that jet coming in for a landing. Sheesh the fan noise is distracting. Hmmm I gotta figure out how to isolate the amp/fan noise it's distracting unless of course I turn up the music. My girl just complained about the DB level being too loud. I of course thought the sound was perfect. :banana::banana: yea u right! What a difference, the sound stage just got a whole lot more defined, the piano (listening to local jazz on the radio tonight) a somewhat difficult instrument to reproduce accurately now I can hear it in the room at a different location than the speakers with GREAT accuracy. VERY nice. The bass from the QLS-3 is amazingly low, I'm sure there's frequencies that are coming out below what I can hear, I can feel them tho and that's awesome.

Quantum 3's are terrific speakers. I would probaby use mine in my main system if I didn't have a completely refurbished pair of Quantum 2's.
 
i don't know anything about the PSA-2. is it one of the newer thin but supposedly really powerful DJ/PA pro amps, or is it more like the old school DC300? i've been leery about most pro amps but heard good things about some of the Yamahas and Haflers that are basically upgraded versions of their home amps.

the PSA-2 looks and feels old school. 71/2 inches high and full depth and about 60#s, it's a beast. As long as I keep the volume at low vol. the fan stays off. It's pro amp for sure. The more I listen the more I likey (without the fan). If I turn up the pre a tad to get into the groove then the fan powers on, then of course I gotta go ballistic to drown out the fan noise :banana::banana::banana: WAF is not tops tho. 9 o'clock on the pre it's off 9:30 oops it just came on again. Dang it.

Anywho - the PSA-2 is 70's to 80's vintage and pre slimline stuff which came afterwards in the 80s and on. I got it off e-pay and the packaging was spot on (for a change), the guys I bought it from had sold a half dozen and got great feedback from all buyers so I took the plunge. The current specs (as tested on this unit) are:

4 ohm load, 1 channel at a time) for this unit:

At 20 hz: Left channel 373 watts, Right channel 371 watts

At 1000hz: Left channel 412 watts, Right channel 412 watts

At 20 khz: Left channel 374 watts, Right channel 367 watts

This is measured for stereo, mono is more than X2 according to the Crown website. Of course I don't need that kind of output but I can see why the fan with that kind of power.

Specs new from the Crown website is 460 into 4 ohm load no frequency range given. I thought that was nuf for the QLS-3 bass draw. Manual says stable to 2 ohm loads so I bought into it but what sold me was pics on this site showing them in the Holy Grail thread. Thats what really what sold me!
