I have a QRX-7001 but have the opportunity to pick up a fully operational QRX-6500 for a low price. I'm aware of the differences in parts used and that the 7001 has better db seperation.
Has anyone compared the 2 and wish to share their thoughts on them?

I have the QRX-6500, and I can say it's outstanding. I have little need for dolby, so it suits me just fine.

Mine is 100% untouched, and still sounds great, I'd say it sounds like my g-8000 in two channel mode.

It has great looks too ofcourse.
 
I have both a QRX7001 and QRX6500, they are both fine machines, I'd say grab the QRX6500, you won't regret it..:yes:

I'm headed out to check the QRX out now. Just talked to the owner. He's going to remove it from the origional box for me to hear.

Just got back from picking up the QRX a short while ago. The owner is a retired navy officer who purchased the QRX new in Guam, 1974 from the navy exchange. He also had 4 Sansui SP-3700A speakers he purchased with it but I had to pass on those. He set it up before I got there with one speaker. I was able to test all controls and outputs and it's in excellent one owner condition. All controls are quiet and all of the bulbs are working.
I will be going through it for a clean up and DeOxit in the next week. The case has never been removed according to the owner. Here's a few pics for your veiwing pleasure.

Very nice find.Not very often can you find thirtyfive year old units that have obviously been taken care of that well.What speaker do you plan on using?
 
I agree. One of the main reasons I grabbed it.
I'm running this on the Straut Classic 11S's and Munimus 7's for now.
Here's a night pic of it lit up.

Hey Rod; Nice find on the 6500. Even nicer to find one in great condition like yours. Are you going to try hooking up a vintage quad set-up?

It's very clean Brian.
I may need to borrow an extra long drill bit from you to
run wires under the floor to the other side of the LR to set this up.

Anyone here have the Owners Manual for the QRX-6500??

You may want to think a bit about those speakers he had...I listened to a set recently, they sounded very good to my ears, they feature an up firing driver, and cast frame woofers.
If the cosmetics are good those would be a great addition to one's system, I didn't go after the set I heard because of space constraints. Sansui speakers can sound very good, and there's a certain synergy I think...

I just sold 2 sets of Sansui recently and still have a set of SP-3000's here at home. I'm considering using the Sui's and Strauts for the Quad set up.

I restrained from buying them due to space constraints also.
 
I couldn,t sleep last night so I decided to tear down the QRX-6500 to give it a cleaning. The inside is in impeckable condition except for the normal 34 years of dust bunnies which blew right out with the help of a soft bristle brush. The only other thing I found is that the bass control for the rears was gummed up from years of non use and turning the control knob did nothing. A couple squirts of DeOxit freed it right up.
I have some nudies I will post in the morning if anyone cares to see them.
 
I've been running the QRX-6500 for a couple of weeks now and have been really enloying what I hear. At first I was running some Infinity RS 5B's as fronts with the Strauts and Minimus 7's for rears. The 5B's, while having a beautiful sound to them, didn't match up just right with the Strauts due to the ohm and sensitivity rating differences of the Infinity's I believe. I was having to adjust the Main Balance control more to the fronts to have a more balanced sound. I was lucky enough to try a set of OHM Walsh 1's from a good friend. (Thanks Brian AKA:Motorstereo) A much better match in my opinion. Although the Walsh 1's are on the bottom of the Walsh line, what a wonderful sound they have. Crisp clear highs and excellent low end bass. It took me a while to get used to the "Quad Sound" but I find that it's not for all types of music. Easy Listening, jazz, blues and more critical listening sounds amazing but for Rock, Alternitive, Metal, etc. I prefer to listenening on the G-8000 with the Infinity's.
