QUAD II Amp + QUAD QC II Preamp - "Unique" condition

Looking for opinions on fair market value of a QUAD QC-II preamplifier and QUAD II monoblock amplifier in “unique” condition and obvious need of restoration.

These are circa 1956 based on a QUAD Product Year/Serial Number Record form, posted at the Lenco turntable forum.

The units were housed in a custom-built wood cabinet – notable in large part because the owner removed the QUAD II badge from the amplifier and affixed it to the cabinet.

Both the units also have personal information of an early or original owner affixed with plastic tape adhesive, and the QUAD II amp has significant cosmetic damage seemingly related to that effort (scratching of the metal, visible in the pictures). The QC-II preamp is missing the "Acoustical" faceplate/insignia/badge (front, bottom, right) and has a damaged button.

Interior photography was performed by a repair shop. The 5U4GB, KT66 (x2), EF86 (x3), JJ 12AX7 Premium and various capacitors would need replacing in a full restoration, at least and in addition to cosmetic work, according to the shop.

What is your opinion on market value for each unit in their current condition? Is the value is affected as separates or as a pair?

Wow, this unit is quite the electronic relic.

Got no idea of actual worth. Got the later "Quad" 33/405 set up, but this is digital in make up. Hope someone, prob from the UK, will chime in regards to this early example of the British "Quad" product. I'd like to know more as well.

Bottom end of the value spectrum, condition of both pieces is poor. preamp no more than 100 bucks, good luck finding the missing badge off the font, power amp 250 max.

I'd say more on the Quad II power amp.. like $400-500 in poor condition alone needing work with guaranteed good transformers.... assuming 120V mains and no dents. At least that's what I'd be willing to pay. I currently have 5. Recapped it will sell for more but should never fall below $500 ever as a working daily driver.... even ugly. LOL. I've never found them for less and I looked for them for years. These actually don't look bad at all.. just paint. These are extremely rare and sought after amps. Not something that shows up with any frequency at all. Easy to repaint (original color paint is available) if so desired. But $100 sounds right on the mono pre.... which is not so desireable as the Quad 22. Make sure they are 120V mains. That will also make them more desireable here in the states. $450 for both would be my offer initially....if..they are in fact 120V mains transformer. But of course if the seller is asking anything less... it would be a no brainer. If it's 220V you'll need a separate step up transformer.... or may not want them at all.

Thanks, this is really helpful. Obviously the cosmetic condition requires work, but it is helpful to know these units retain value even in poor condition due to their scarcity.

Yeah, the Quad II is pretty special. Some folks will pay ridiculous prices for them. I can attest to how nice a pair sounds.

Indeed, at least the 220V versions. 120V versions or even just original 120V power transformers for parts (to convert a 220V amp the proper way) is a really rare find anymore. Most are 220V it seems. I suppose you are gonna next say that ESL-57s are everywhere there too. One of my favorite speakers.
