Quantum 2 hybrid project

So, I know I was going to start a QLS-1 hybrid, but after I found another set of Watkins on the bay and having a few extra emits and polydomes I decided to build a Quantum 2 hybrid first. I'll learn a little while building these and move on to the QLS-1's. I'll probably end up selling these at some point.
These will have the original Watkins woofer and Mid-bass coupler, two of the RS style polydome midrange and three emit kappa k tweeters on the front and one on the back.
I've got the software now to design the midrange and tweeter crossovers since they'll be different than the original. These will be bi-amp capable, made from 1" MDF and cherry veneer. The front panel will actually look a lot like the RSII.
I'll keep posting as I make progress.

I like the look of the RSII 'wings', though I'm not sure if they will serve any purpose in your design, other than esthetics. Very nice work!

More photos. You'll notice how I used the Kreg jig system to attach the side panels. They are solid as a rock. I should be staining this next week. Still waiting on a couple of components to finish the mid and high crossovers.

Not sure why the photos didn't load.

So, all done with the cabinets, on to painting and staining. I decided to finish the top of the panel to look similar to the IRS.

Absolutely awesome work so far! It must be so fun to work from an excellent existing design and kind of make it your own. So cool!

I'm having a blast. Unfortunately I'm just now figuring out what I want to be when I grow up and it only took 43 years.

I can't wait to get these done and listen to them. I may not be able to sell them after I've listened to them. I do want to build a set of my version of QLS-1's though, so I'll have to sell these to pay for those.

I am also going to build a set of RSM's which I have the components for already. I'm going to make those out of rosewood or something exotic. My wife might let me put them in the living room if they're a little more modern looking than the originals I already have.

I wish I would have been older when everyone wanted big-a** speakers in their house. I think I could have made a bunch of money. Oh well, maybe in my next life. Thanks for the positive comments.

+1 for listening to them.
when finished, can you post cut dimensions, plans, and especially the crossovers !!

Looks outstanding!

I see you took the midbass coupler and give it the "transmission line" so it can behave like a dipole. Why no rear firing EMIT? That would give sound stage a kick in the pants.

I do have one question for those that have a pair of QLS-1's and/or Q2's. Which speaker should be the left and right?
The QLS-1's are built so the tweeters are on the outside edge of the cabinet based on the picture with the Asian girl. The Q2 from pictures I've seen have the cabinets built so one set of tweeters are outside and one inside, strange considering their flagship QLS-1's were not that way. I of course made them like the QLS-1's, that's why I pose the question.
It will probably come down to just listening to them and finding out for myself.

The Q1 manual suggests EMITs to the inside. The Q2s are also supposed to be mirror-imaged, though I guess some sets were sold mixed up.
