quartz lock for older servo DD tables?

having noticed tables such as the pioneer pl-630 that have both a defeatable quartz lock and variable speed control i got to wondering if tables such as my sony 2250, or a sp-10 mk1 could be retro-fitted with a quartz lock circuit.

any thoughts?

Maybe, but you'd need the schematics for the control circuit. There are single chip oscillator/counter/divider chips out there. You can probably get one to supply the motor through a higher current power amp section. But that'd be a lot of tweaking and figuring. What's wrong with the stock circuits?

Spray Deoxit on the innards of the pitch controls and the 33/45 switch. That usually solves the drifting problem.

I can be done. You need to know the original circuitry though.
You need access to the tacho signal - which isn't always of high resolution (e.g., first generation SL1200, tacho resolution is poor). Then you need a phase detector, which is easy enough with a few CMOS gates. And you need to know where to inject the drive control signal in the existing velocity feedback circuit.

Quartz Lock For Older Direst Drive

Imdocjas I have the brother to your 2250, the 2251. I'v had the same problem with mine with the speed drifting. Cleaned the pitch controls with Deoxit and it was fine for a while and later started to drift again. I'll have to go back and give the pitch controls another cleaning. As you said when the speed is right it sounds very good. I installed a Grace G707 MkIII tonearm on my 2251, I have another armboard and when I get to it I'll install a Sumiko MMT tonearm to see how that sounds.
